Abcxyz, a deceiving title and a cute excerpt on the cover, all to capture the attention of the male protagonist who stubbornly stays in the game.

Looking for a cute and heartwarming romance novel to soothe my soul, I stumbled upon this book and let me tell you, it was like a volcano exploding in my brain. The writing style was great, the translation was well-done, which made it impossible for me to put it down. Well, except for the extremely intense storyline, that is.

Now, let’s break down the intricate web of this plot and try to summarize its madness:

The Characters

Let’s name the main characters: N, the female lead; M, the antagonist; T, the male lead; L, the first male supporting character; and C, the second male supporting character. Now, let’s unfold the story through these equations:

  1. N pursued L in their childhood, but L accepted her love and later left her for his true love, M.

  2. N goes on a blind date with T, and due to mutual benefits, they agree to continue seeing each other.

  3. N’s parents divorce, and after a DNA test, N’s mother finds out that her son is from an affair. However, she accepts N as her own. C is N’s father’s assistant, and they develop feelings for each other, but N refuses C because she loves T.

  4. M and L return home, and through an unfortunate circumstance, they meet each other. It is revealed through T’s cousin that M is T’s ex-girlfriend. L followed M when she left T. (The madness begins)

  5. T and L fight in front of M, and N witnesses it. N wants to break up with T, but he persuades her to stay.

  6. After a calm period, T promises to limit his contact with M. However, M suddenly announces that she has a 5-year-old daughter with T, and the child is critically ill. T takes care of the child, but assures N that he won’t leave her.

  7. N’s mother causes an accident involving T’s pregnant mistress and threatens to take T to court unless N breaks up with him, stating that T and M are the real family, and they are outsiders. (Wtf)

  8. T discovers L’s plan and promises not to leave N. On the day N’s mother goes to court, T’s daughter falls critically ill again. L forces N to marry him, or else he will kill her. (Dm dm dm)

  9. Throughout this process, C (N’s father’s assistant, in case you forgot), is always there to comfort N. C gives up everything to travel with N across the continent, only returning when he hears the news of N’s father’s suicide.

  10. After all the chaos settles, and N is about to leave the country with C, M confesses that the little girl is not T’s daughter; she is T’s cousin’s child.

To sum up this chaotic ending, everything seems to be denied, as if the whole story was just a figment of our imagination. It’s just mind-boggling.

The most pitiful character is L. He left N for M, and N had an abortion without telling anyone. Then, he forced N to break up with T in the hope that M would be moved and turn to him. (He’s no different than someone trying to obtain residency in Saigon). T isn’t condemned for anything, but he is discriminatory. Whoever gets tangled up with M will have to endure it. Poor C, he’s pretty unfortunate, but who cares? He’s just a supporting character.

In my opinion, the only solution to this story is to either commit suicide or get rid of all those debt-ridden people to have some peace of mind.

Because in the end, I prefer fantasy, historical, and gangster novels where violence is openly displayed, allowing for some stress relief. This kind of suppressed frustration is unbearable.-.
